In October, my family and I made a trip to Disney World but not in the traditional sense: we decided to take the auto train.
The auto train, if you've never heard of it, stretches along most of the Eastern United States Coast, starting in Lorton, Virginia, and making its way to Sanford, Florida. Conveniently, Sanford is only about an hour away from the highly famous Disney World. What makes the auto train unique is that, unlike any other train, it takes your car along the trip. Even though the trip is sixteen hours, versus a two hour plane trip, the cost is much cheaper than traveling in the air.
So...is it worth it?
It all depends on whose doing the traveling. If you have children, especially young children, I wouldn't suggest it. In those sixteen hours include a lot of instability from the tracks, which makes it almost impossible to sleep. The food is only decent; the movies being played probably only received two stars at the most, and they're rarely children's movies. Because of the constant jolting, transitioning from car to car can be a great hassle.
If you don't fit in that category, then you just might enjoy it. The first time I went I was nine years old, and it wasn't really my idea of pleasurable; this past October, however, I felt myself appreciating it more. The whole time I plugged my headphones in and stared out the provided large windows. The Carolinas and Virginia possessed the best scenery, but everywhere looked beautiful. Since there are small tables connected to the seats, I seized the great opportunity to get a head start on the schoolwork I'd miss.
For me, the auto train was an awesome experience. I want to know what you think! Comment below on whether you enjoyed it or not.
